ICANCERVIVE

MEET THE TEACHER

Donna 'Sunshine' Ramos

Welcome to ICANCERVIVE. This isn’t just a website—it’s a tribute, a story, and a celebration of the incredible strength of my teacher, Donna Ramos. She wasn’t just a teacher—she was a warrior. In 2002, she was diagnosed with Stage III Endometrial Cancer. Over the next 30 years, she didn’t just fight cancer once—she beat it seven times. Her story isn’t just about survival; it’s about resilience, determination, and the sheer will to keep going.

But her strength wasn’t just in the battle with cancer—it was in the way she lived. In her classroom, “I can’t” didn’t exist. She taught me that strength isn’t about always getting it right the first time. It’s about trying, stumbling, and standing back up—again and again. She believed that failure wasn’t an end, but a step forward, and that the real power came from pushing through, even when things felt impossible.

She was the bravest person I’ve ever known. And through ICANCERVIVE, I hope to share a piece of her courage with you.

THE STUDENT PERSPECTIVE

The Soundtrack of Healing

The Soundtrack of Healing is a podcast that celebrates Sunshine’s legacy through the stories and memories we’ve shared over more than 30 years of friendship. Reflecting on these moments has been a part of my healing process, and I’m deeply grateful for her willingness to walk this journey with me. Sharing these stories brings me comfort, as I’m learning that healing comes from honoring her memory and the journey we experienced together.

THE TEACHER PERSPECTIVE

A Dose of Sunshine

A Dose of Sunshine is the “teacher perspective,” where I share clips of her no-nonsense wisdom as she tackles her end-of-life journey with humor and grace. Never once did she ask, “Why me?” Instead, she’d say, “Why not me?”—and then follow it up with a joke. Her words remind us to live fully, laugh often, and roll with the punches. Even in the hardest moments, she showed us that a little humor and a lot of love can make all the difference.
